The Studio Print Shop
The Studio Print Shop is a membership organization for experienced printmakers who share studio space and community. It is located at the Studio Santa Rosa, in the Barracks building on an old Navy Air base in Sonoma County, California. The Studio Print Shop started in 2002, and is run by Caren Catterall. She has a BFA from California College of Arts and Crafts and works as the printmaking lab technician at Santa Rosa Junior College.
Our facilities include about 1300 square feet of space, with many windows and skylights. We have three presses; a Sturges CP5 star wheel etching press with a 28 x 48 " bed, an Ettan etching press with a 20 x 36" bed for half sheet prints, and a wood block press with a dropped bed for printing type high. We have nitric acid for etching zinc, and ferric chloride for etching copper in vertical tanks. Other equipment includes an aquatint box, large glass topped inking tables, two hot plates, soaking sink, drying rack, a 16" two handed roller and many small brayers, matt cutter, ample work tables and flat storage for 22 x 30 paper.
Membership is open to those who can demonstrate adequate knowledge of studio techniques and safety, and can work unsupervised. A portfolio review will be included in the interview for membership. We have an annual Open Studio in fall and other show and sale opportunities on occasion. We purchase paper as a group, saving on quantity and shipping discounts.
Membership fees are:
$75 year membership
$50 one time deposit
$100 month for full time access (ongoing commitment),
OR $135 month (no commitment)
$200/ 6 times/ 3 months
The Studio Print Shop provides black ink, ink modifiers, solvents and acids. The artist provides their own color inks, paper, plates and tarlatan (some of these materials are available for sale).
